Physics and Chemistry – ESO 4 was published in July 2019. It covers all of the key topics in the curriculum for the fourth year of ESO. It is written in an accessible style that reflects the English skills of Spanish 15/16-year-olds.

We help students to overcome language barriers by using visual aids, such as clearly-labelled diagrams, graphs and pictures.

The first half of this book is on chemistry, and we start by explaining the structure of the atom and how this relates to the physical and chemical properties of elements and their position in the periodic table. We also cover chemical bonds, introduce organic chemistry and functional groups, as well as studying chemical reactions and stoichiometry.

The physics section of the book includes linear and circular motion, Newtonian dynamics, hydrostatics, work and thermal energy. While studying these topics, students will learn about the difference between vectors and scalars, perform numerous calculations and practice interpreting and producing graphs.

The book breaks the subject down into manageable topics that are presented in a logical sequence. Each topic is accompanied by a large number of questions and/or exercises. At the end of each chapter there are also various longer activities to consolidate and summarise the contents of the chapter. As well as standard questions, these include practicals, calculations, pair/group work and reading exercises.
